Dear reader,
Between January and May 2025, 56 citizens from all over the country met in Norway's first National People's Panel commissioned by civil society. They gathered across disparities to agree on concrete advice on how Norway can use its wealth for the good of the world, ourselves and future generations.
The Future Panel has been initiated by seven civil society organisations that have committed to taking up the recommendations. They have also committed to working to ensure that the recommendations are communicated to policy makers and to consider how to implement them themselves. The seven civil society organisations are Save the Children, Church Emergency Aid, Landsråd for Norwegian Children's and Youth Organisations (LNU), Caritas, WWF World Nature Fund, Lang— the think-tank for long-term policy, and The Future in Our Hands.
This report lists the recommendations on which the Future Panel members have gathered. Despite their different perspectives, the recommendations have broad support from the panel and show a clear direction for how Norway should spend its wealth.
The 56 members are a representative sample of the Norwegian population in terms of geography, age, education level, gender and political standpoint. The recommendations reflect what a broadly composed group of citizens in Norway thinks about our shared wealth. The report is the result of residents' experiences, learning from experts, reflections and discussions. It is prepared by the People's Panel members in collaboration with the Secretariat from SoCentral and We Do Democracy. More information about the work, including a recording of all the knowledge posts the members of the panel have received, can be found at www.framtidpanelet.no.
Texts in italics are statements made by members of the panel.
The report is divided into three:
- Part 1 - Recommendations prepared and written by the members of the Future Panel
- Part 2 - Description of the process, working methods and organization
- Part 3 - Statements of the various bodies of the Future Panel
