Parliamentary Seminar on the Future Panel

Welcome to a parliamentary seminar on the Future Panel's recommendations, under the auspices of the seven principals of the panel.
The Future Panel — a national panel of people with participants from all over the country — has discussed during the winter and spring how Norway can use our wealth for the good of the world, ourselves and future generations. They delivered their 19 recommendations to the public on 13 May at the Parliament. We are now following up the launch with a seminar where politicians will have the opportunity to comment on the recommendations. Particular focus will be placed on the four recommendations relating to the Oil Fund (Topic 1).
Programs:
10:00: Doors open and coffee is served
10:30 a.m.: Introduction of the recommendations of the panel members and the community council by Thina Margrethe Saltvedt, Chief Analyst Global Sustainability Nordea
10:50am: Comments and reflections by fiscal representatives from the parties. Confirmed politicians are Eigil Knutsen (Ap), Heidi Nordby Lunde (H), Sigrid Heiberg (MDG) and Freddy Øvstegård (SV).
11:25 a.m.: Closing comment
The recommendations in focus:
1. Parliament should draw up new guidelines earmarking what the returns from the oil fund should be spent on in the state budget.
2. It should be set aside a specific percentage of the oil fund to sustainable investments where we accept higher risks and lower economic returns to promote social and economic development in developing countries.
3. Parliament must adopt clearer guidelines for the use of the oil fund in case of crisis.
4th. The oil fund must be instructed on a rapid scale-up to reach the target of 2% investment in renewable energy.
NB! Registration by Sunday, June 1. Remember to show up well before 10:30 a.m. with a valid ID, as there is a security check in to the Parliament.
The Storting Seminar is organized by MDG and the principals of the Future Panel: Save the Children, Church Emergency Aid, LNU, Caritas, WWF, The Future in Our Hands and Long Term.
Well met!
